Exhibition Date: 14 November - 25 November, 2024
“Veils of Home” is an exhibition that delves into the subtle and profound interplay between interior design and human emotion, philosophy, and memory. Each abstraction is a representation of the intrinsic threads of human emotions and memories, woven together to create a tapestry that is a home. Each narrative shared through the palettes of Filipino visual artists Gabby Prado, Haraya Ocampo Tejido, and Jomike Tejido builds the environment of a home—how they are shaped by our innermost selves. Through iterations of furniture, gatherings, familial traditions, and relationships, the exhibit explores ideas of home as both sanctuary and memory.
Jomike utilizes organic architecture, aptly parallel to the natural ways family ties grow and interconnect with an individual’s identity. This is amplified by Haraya’s use of whimsical home items that depict sentimentality and nostalgia, playing with ideas encapsulating memories through tactility. Gabby then bridges all of these with her series of diptychs and free-flowing shapes that mimic emotions that are discovered and developed through the comforts of constant gatherings within relatives.
Throughout “Veils of Home”, it asks: How do spaces reflect our identities? How do they hold and transform our memories? This exhibit encourages viewers to question their own relationship to place, the way home exists both as a physical reality and as a profound part of the psyche.
