Pat Frades is a visual artist who began her career in 2020, after having been an art curator
for five years. Pat Frades has long been fascinated by the world of fungi. We can see this passion in physical form through her ceramic pieces that bring them to life. With each exhibit of hers, she tackles various thought-provoking themes that allow for a stimulating rumination.
Her latest sculptures involve this very theme and include figures of human-fungi hybrids which came to her after watching a TV series wherein ingesting fungal spores turned humans into zombies. Her series “Clusters” however, delves into how these motifs visualize what it is like to overthink. It portrays the process by which a few thoughts arise, multiplying and ultimately consuming you. Nevertheless, Pat says that as with her experience of overthinking, one can learn to collect their entangled thoughts and guide them towards a greater potential.
